Co-operation
The length of treatment depends on the severity of the problem, the patient's growth and the level of patient co-operation. The estimated time of treatment usually is reasonably close to the actual time necessary, but treatment can be lengthened if growth is different than expected or if patient co-operation is less than ideal.
Co-operation by patients is essential and normally means:
- Wearing all appliances, elastics, headgear, retainers etc as instructed.
- Performing any exercises exactly as prescribed.
- Keeping all appointments as scheduled.
- Maintaining oral hygiene.
- Maintaining excellent oral health.
- Maintaining a good balanced diet.
- Avoiding activities and foods that could damage or dislodge the appliances.
- Informing the office about any problems with the appliances which might occur between visits.
